I've been re-reading a booklet I wrote in Dec 2000, called "Varnashrama-dharma Implementation Manifesto". The electronic copy was lost in Peru along with my laptop and the Harinam Sankirtan Yajna book, which has since been resurrected.
This podcast is a few thoughts on the subject. I'll post excerpts from the booklet, and some more podcasts of thoughts on the matter.

Insightful
That was well worth watching - although you do seem to be acquiring an Australian accent! I hope you'll be able to resurrect the "Varnashrama-dharma Implementation Manifesto".
Devamrita Swami (Gurudeva) made an interesting point in a class at the 06/07 Otaki retreat - that if you want to live on a farm you could start by growing some vegetables. I've had a little success this year.
Gopinatha acarya (Murwillumbah) has several volumes of excerpts from Srila Prabhupada's conversations that specifically (and in many cases quite generally) relate to establishing varnashrama communities. When I first started reading them I was surprised at the difference between what he actually discussed ("balanced plan for world domination") and the way his teachings are commonly presented ("sankirtan ki jaya").
Your servant, Geoff.
