Restless Leg Syndrome Drug causes Compulsive Gambling

Hey, remember after one of my trips to the US I wrote about so-called "Restless Leg Syndrome? (Follow the link to read the blog post if you don't remember).

Now, again, I mean - wtf? A "syndrome" is a collection of symptoms without an understood cause. Prescribing a drug for that, especially when the symptom is something like "restless legs" is crazy. What does the drug do to address the problem, paralyze your legs? Problem solved....

Anyway, today I'm listening to a podcast by Suzy Cohen, a U.S. pharmacist who warns people about the dangerous and detrimental side-effects of many of the modern petrochemical pharmaceuticals cranked out by Dr Frankenstein, Inc.

In this podcast she mentions restless leg syndrome and a drug commonly used to "treat" it - Mirapex. She said that among its documented side effects are compulsive gambling and uncontrollable sexual desires - I kid you not. Check out this website - search on the page for "gambling".

I mean seriously, you couldn't make this stuff up...

Reminds me of this song (go Muppets!)...

Here is something you could try to address "restless leg syndrome" - get caffeine, sugar, and excessive salt out of your diet and go on an intestinal cleanse program.

It may not cure your restless legs, but it will improve your overall health, and it won't make you a compulsive gambler or a sex fiend.

Read Wikipedia's entry on Restless Leg Syndrome.
