Planet ISKCON Mobile Edition

Posted On: Mon, 2008-07-21 10:03 by sitapati

If you have a mobile phone with a browser and want to read Planet ISKCON, check out the new Planet ISKCON Mobile edition.

I've put a proposal on Rentacoder.com to have a mobile version of the Atma Yoga website created.

Now my question, dear lazyweb, is this: should I get it done in WML or XHTML?

Bhakta Corey's blog

Posted On: Wed, 2008-03-19 06:17 by sitapati

I have taken Bhakta Corey's blog off Planet ISKCON at this time.

The reason for this is that his blog does not accept comments and the email I have for him, which was a pamho.net account, is bouncing. Since one of the foundational principles of Planet ISKCON is "No unaccountable authors", at this time he doesn't fit the bill.

Bhakta Corey, please send me an email address that you can be contacted on if you are interested in having your feed readded.

Planet ISKCON

Posted On: Tue, 2007-04-17 05:47 by sitapati

OK folks, ISKCON News.net is now known as Planet ISKCON.

Planet ISKCON is "more nectar than you can drink" It's an hourly snapshot of ISKCON worldwide, giving an insight into what members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness are thinking about and what they are doing.

Why the name change?

Planet ISKCON is more representative of what the site is all about. It's about global community and global communication.

What's going to happen to the old domain name?

Well, a group of devotees, comprised of His Holiness Mukunda Goswami, Anuttama das, Lal Krishna das, Devaprastha das, Tulasi Priya devi dasi, Vyenkatta Bhatta das, and Linda Steven, have been working on a site, and they asked me if they could have the domain name. In the mood of Dadhici, how can I say no? :-)

So hopefully they'll be showing up on the scene soon. We'll give everyone some time to get used to the Planet ISKCON domain first.

Atma's First Birthday

Posted On: Sat, 2007-02-24 09:49 by sitapati

It's the first birthday of our Albert St studio this March 17th. Come on down for a great evening.

Remember also that we'll be at the Yoga Expo at the Powerhouse this weekend - Sunday 4th March 9 am - 5.30 pm. And then we're doing kirtan from 6 pm - 7.30 pm.

You also have the option to rock on down to the Sunday Feast at Govindas, or to the temple in Graceville for the celebration of Gaura Purnima - the Golden Moon Festival celebrating the appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Sri Dustara Rama

Posted On: Wed, 2007-01-17 18:50 by sitapati

This is Sri Dustara Rama - unconquerable Lord Rama. He is a salagram-sila, a manifestation of Lord Visnu in the form of a special stone that is found only in the Kali Gandaki river high in the mountains of Nepal. Different salagram-silas correspond to different incarnations of Visnu, and are identified by scriptural descriptions of their markings.

I'll post another picture of Sri Dustara Rama's specific markings that identify him as an incarnation of Lord Rama later. Right now I have to do my morning duties and then catch a flight to Sydney where I'm manning a booth at Linux Conf.AU and visiting the temple and devotees there.

Sri Dustara Rama ki jay!

To find out more information about salagram-silas in general, and the history of Sri Dustara Rama before he arrived at my home in particular, visit the website of Purohit Jaya Tirtha Caran das.

World Sankirtan

Posted On: Wed, 2007-01-17 01:21 by sitapati
The new internet changes the rules. Something big is happening online, it's free, it's fast and more and more non-profits are figuring out how to use it.

Surely there isn't room for your organization in this revolution! Or, if there is, no doubt it is going to take you a lot of time, planning and money...

Wrong. The good news is that the community-centric model of Web2.0 is custom-made for organizations that do good work. No ticket required, no technology needed. The very same tools that have made it easy for a 14-year-old guitar player from Japan to become world famous make it easy for you to reach a larger audience than ever before.

The only problem? You've got to dive in and give them a try.

From a recent article by Seth Godin on The 59 Smartest Orgs Online.

If you are involved in Krishna Consciousness and are a programmer, web or graphic designer, writer, video producer, or otherwise involved in media, hi-tech, or communications, check out the new online group World Sankirtan on Google Groups.

This discussion forum will become a reference point for technology implementation in ISKCON.

In many senses the Internet is becoming the new brhad-mrdanga. People are increasingly consuming information via multimedia and the Internet in preference to books.

Of course book distribution does not diminish in importance, but we must also add the new opportunities afforded by technological developments and continue to push forward with the mission of spreading the timeless knowledge contained in the teachings of Lord Krishna and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu by any and all means...

Join the conversation.
